JHS Homecoming

Homecoming at JHS was definitely less dramatic than the JCS. There was no one getting dress coded at the JHS Homecoming. Kianna went with her new BFF, Emma McMillan. Emma just moved to FL in June from PA and has been a blessing to Kianna. Emma and Kianna are both on the same club soccer team, go to school together and attend the same church. It is awesome when so many of their worlds collide. Emma's family and I took the girls out to dinner at Del Pesto before the dance. The dance was deemed boring by Kianna, but she made new memories regardless.

Kaylee went to the dance with Annika Espenship and Rebekah Collins, both teammates from her Jupiter Jaguar basketball team. Kaylee has likewise gotten to know some of their friends and so attended with a big group of girls. These girls decided not to do dinner before the dance, but instead to go to IHOP after then dance. Kaylee had fun with her friends.

Dogs

We adore our dogs, Bella and Rizzo. They each have their own unique personalities. Bella is the energetic one. She has no awareness of personal space and is an attention seeker. Bella loves people, kids and other dogs. She loves going on walks and enjoys saying "hi" to all those along the way. Bella is very social, but will only cuddle on her own terms. She likes to sit at our feet when watching TV and if we move her to cuddle, she gets up and walks away. Bella is my shadow. She follows me around all day long. If I take a shower, she sits outside the door. If I take a bath, she waits for me to finish or peeks at me from above. When we're in the pool, she will walk onto a raft and float around. Bella has a fun personality.

Rizzo is more of a grumpy old man, but in a good way. He moves slower, is wider and loves food, especially his bones. He knows when it's bone time and will stare at us and nudge us with his nose if we aren't getting up to get him his bone when he feels it's time. Rizzo would rather nap than go on a walk. Rizzo is a good cuddler and lets us move him where ever we want him. Rizzo is everyone's dog. He loves to cuddle with all of us. Rizzo is very protective. He is skittish around other dogs, ever since getting attached when we first moved here. He is a barker and unfortunately that has rubbed off on Bella. Rizzo gets real nervous when we're in the pool, as if he's scared we'll drowned. He sprints around the pool barking at us. Rizzo LOVES to watch TV. Literally, he enjoys any show that has an animal in it. He seems to understand the intensity of shows and gets very upset when something scary is happening. He'll get up on his hind legs and pace the length of the media console and even jump up and down if it's really intense. He is hilarious to watch.

We often find ourselves dog sitting, Miles, Stacie and Patrick's dog. The kids joke that Bella and Miles are dating. She adores him and is all over him when he's around. Rizzo enjoys Miles company too, but doesn't get near as excited as Bella does. Miles loves going on walks and is a roamer, as they often walk him "off leash". He likes to roam the sidewalks and sniff everything. Our dogs are always on leash and have been trained to stay on the sidewalk. Bella walks on the left and Rizzo on the right. Walking all three dogs is quite the ordeal and is better done with two people. The other challenge with all three dogs is our sleeping arrangements. All the dogs are used to sleeping in a king sized bed. Bella likes to lay right next to me when we sleep. She is always touching me. Rizzo likes his own space, but sometimes ends up between my legs. Miles is a bed hog. He aims for the pillow. He thinks he's a human. We get a kick out of all the dogs and their own unique personalities.

JCS Homecoming

Kianna with Rex

Kianna with Leo her leopard gecko

Both girls were invited to join their friends at the JCS Homecoming. Kaylee went with her friend, Ella and met up with a few other girls. Kianna went with Courtney and her friends. Courtney's mom went all out and arrived for a limo to drive them to the dance, which was pretty special.

Both girls had fun with their friends, but the night was definitely tainted by the JCS dress code police, especially for Kianna as her crew arrived earlier than Kaylee's group. Both girls' dresses were deemed "inappropriate" and so the girls were put in a room with other girls that were dress coded. Unfortunately, nearly all the girls present were dress coded. We got a frantic phone call from Kianna telling us she was being sent home. We were in West Palm and were just finishing up our dinner, so headed back to Jupiter. However, by the time we arrived, some angry parents had already arrived and go the administrators to let the girls into enjoy the dance. Phew! What unnecessary drama...

Fall in Florida

Kaylee makes me decorate for fall and I make her help. This is the only fall we get here in Florida cause once we step outside it is hot and humid, not cool, crisp air that greets us.

Iowa Football, Florida Style

In honor of the Iowa vs Iowa State football game, we hosted our own tailgate party. We smoked chicken wings and Mac and Cheese in our new smoker. Yummy! We played some corn hole and of course watched the game. You'll have to ask Trevor who won. I'm in it for the food and company...

Our First Bat Mitzvah

Keri, Trevor, Dr. Robert Voorhees and Risa Voorhees

We experienced our first Bat Mitzvah with Keri's coworkers. Her coworker, Amy's daughter, Lexi was turning of age and we were invited to join in the celebration. The event was held at PGA National, which was a very nice venue. The Bat Mitzvah was quite the party. It is much like a wedding reception. It was fun to see all the jewish customs being celebrated. We had a nice evening.
