Scary Migraines

I got a scary phone call from the school nurse telling me that Kianna was having trouble finding words and processing her thoughts while taking a test at school. She also got lost several times on her way to the nurse's office and had to ask for directions. I left work and immediately took Kianna to Jupiter Medical's Pediatric Emergency Room. Her symptoms continued to progress to include slurred speech, lack of coordination, R sided weakness, a lopsided smile, and numbness/tingling in her hands and legs. They sprung into action and did blood work and a CT scan. After approximately 20 minutes, Kianna's stroke-like symptoms ended leaving Kianna with a mild headache. The test slowly came back normal.

Despite feeling fine, they decided to transfer her to St. Mary's Children's Hospital via ambulance so that she could be examined by a pediatric neurologist. Since Kianna was feeling fine and was asymptomatic, she got pushed to the end of the line. The new emergency room was filled to capacity with paper curtains separating the rooms and other families were on beds in the hallways.

After what seemed like forever, a MRI was ordered and Kianna was placed on observation in the PICU. In the morning, we were told that her MRI was normal and that they think her stroke-like symptoms were caused by a migraine. I had never heard of such a migraine! We are supposed to follow up if her symptoms return. We are relieved that it wasn't anything more serious and thankful our nana girl is back home safe and sound!

Foot Golf

The kids new club organized a fun family night of Foot Golf. Kianna and Trace were paired with their teammates. There may or may not have been a few balls in this pond...

Walker's Visit

My mom, Grandma Carie and Rylan came to visit us a few days. Unfortunately, we didn't get any pictures of all of us together. Rylan had a blast playing with her cousins. My mom had fun helping us with our puzzle.

Iowa vs Iowa State Football Game

We recently met another family from Iowa. Kaylee has become friends with Lilly Hass who lived in the Des Moines area the first 7 years of her life. Her dad, Michael is from the Quad Cities and her mom, Laura is from St. Louis. They have visited our church a few times and recently invited us to their home to watch the Iowa vs Iowa State game. They are a very nice family. They have three kids: Sam who's a junior, Lilly who's a freshman, and Gus who's in 4th grade.

Bella

Our sweet little Bella is so stinking cute! She is a bit of a handful though as she has chewed on three of our newly painted baseboards, torn up my slippers and continues to pee and poo on my gray shag rugs. She is bell trained, but doesn't always pee and poo when outside. Sometimes she goes outside and then comes back in and goes on my gray shag rug. It needs to stop...

She adores her big brother, Rizzo, and follows him wherever he goes. We tried to get her to like the pool and the ocean, to no avail. She isn't a big cuddler at this point. She does love going on walks and can make it the full 3 mile loop now. We love our little Bella Grace!

Hurricane Dorian

Hurricane Dorian began on August 28th and became a category 5 hurricane that hovered over the Bahamas wreaking havoc. The hurricane was projected to hit us in Jupiter and so we made preparations. Our house is made of concrete block construction and has hurricane windows, so we planned to stay put.  We stocked up on canned goods, water, and propane. We gased up our cars and tried our best to prep our yard. Trevor took down fan blades and speakers outdoors. We moved our outdoor furniture indoors and prepped our garage so our dogs could pee and poo if needed.

Those without hurricane windows, used plywood to board up their windows and closed their businesses. School was cancelled. Our friends, the Nelson's decided to evacuate and headed north to visit family for a few days.

Thankfully, the hurricane turned and worked its way northeast along the Atlantic coast missing us. We had some rain and high winds, but nothing scary. We stayed indoors and made the best of it. We taught the kids how to play Acquire. We're thankful we remained safe!
