Swim Lessons

Kaylee jumping off of the board. Yesterday she jumped off the high board, where the little boy is standing.

Today was the last day of swim lessons for both Kaylee and Kianna. The girls started taking swim lessons a month ago and have been taking them everyday since. They both started out in level one and after the first two weeks Kaylee advanced to level 2. What a difference a summer of swim lessons have made. Both girls were scared to put there faces in the water and now they both will do it when asked. Kaylee has become a little fish. She can swim UNDER water ~7-10'. Kaylee was given the "most energetic" award by her teacher today. She LOVES the water and doesn't stay in one place for long. She is constantly jumping up and down, swimming under water, or doing somersaults under water. Her other accomplishment was jumping off of the high board into the deep end. She appears to be fearless in the water these days. Kianna also made a lot of improvement. Until a few days ago, she refused to put her face in the water and then all of a sudden she decided it was fun to put her head under water and wallah she passed level 1. Both girls received swim medals today. Great job girls!

Kianna's Date with Mommy

Kianna with her loot.

When I was little, my mom had the tradition every summer of taking me shopping for new school clothes. It was always just me and my mom and she made the night extra special by taking me out to dinner and letting me choose the restaurant. I have such fond memories of the experience growing up that I decided to continue the tradition with our kids. Kianna chose McDonalds as her restaurant of choice. She had fun playing briefly in the play area and then we headed to the stores. She had a blast pulling clothes off the rack and trying them on in the dressing room. When asked, her favorite purchase was her new shoes. Kianna told me throughout the night "I love going on dates with Mommy" and "I want to do this again". It was fun spending one-on-one time with Kianna and making some traditions of our own.

Trace is 6 Months Old!!!

Trace in his highchair for the first time.
Trace sitting. He seemed unphased by his first time in the grass.

Our little man has changed a lot in the last month. Trace's biggest accomplishment was mastering the art of eating with a spoon. He wasn't a big fan of rice cereal until Mommy cheated and put in a little fruit to liven it up a bit. Once that happened it disappeared quickly. Trace LOVES baby food. He never knew food could taste so good. He has made it through all the orange and green veggies and most of the fruits. The only thing I have found that he isn't a huge fan of is green beans, although he will still eat them, just not as fast as the other foods. Trace is on the same schedule eating milk 4x/day, but now in addition he has rice cereal and fruit at breakfast and a veggie and fruit for both lunch and dinner. He is a GREAT eater. Kaylee had been begging me to let her feed him his baby food, so I let her try it once. Apparently, he is partial to Mommy and Daddy feeding him as he refused to open his mouth for her. Strange...

Trace's other big accomplishment is learning to sit. He is still wobbly, but he seems to get better each day. Kaylee and Kianna enjoy sitting behind him while he sits to make sure he doesn't get hurt. With the girls I just used pillows, but I figure a BIG sister is even better! Trace had his first owies this month in the form of 3 blisters. How does a 6 month old get blisters on his toes you ask, great question??? We have decided it is a result of his love for jumping in the Jumperoo and that somehow he managed to get blisters from his toes rubbing together. Who knows??? What I do know is that after taking a 3 day break from the Jumperoo they are almost all healed.

Trace is beginning to "talk". Lately, he can be heard making lots of happy noises when we put him to bed at night or when he wakes up in the morning. It is precious listening to his little voice. Trace's favorite toys/activities are jumping in the Jumperoo, rolling around on the floor, playing with his spinning toy and blocks, sucking on his thumb and teething rings, smiling at his big sisters, pulling hair, and giggling while getting tickled. Trace also went swinging for the first time this past month and really enjoyed it. Trace is not too interested in his pacifier anymore, as he much prefers his thumb. He is getting to be such a big boy. Happy 1/2 Birthday Buddy!!!!

The Cook Family Reunion

"Ring Around the Rosy"
Caylee Cook and Kaylee Cook

We just got back from a fun weekend up in Mason City, IA. We went up on Friday to spend time with Trevor's parents and sister, Sam's family. We had a fun time swimming in the hotel pool and playing at a park where Trace got to swing for the first time. He thought swinging was a lot of fun as he was smiling and giggling most of the time. Today, we had The Cook Family Reunion at a park with a swimming pool nearby. It was a gorgeous day and fun seeing family. Kaylee was pretty excited to learn that she has a 3rd cousin with the same name, Caylee Cook. Kianna had fun feeding bread to some geese and ducks. The kids played an animated game of "Ring Around the Rosy" with Grandma Becki, Aunt Ruth, and three of Daddy's cousins. We all got some good laughs out of that game, as well as, their game of "Red Rover".

We spent part of the afternoon at the swimming pool. Kaylee has really become a little fish in the water. She just completed two weeks of swim lessons and can now swim UNDER water and dive for objects. She is so proud of herself! Kianna is doing well in swim lessons too. She is gaining confidence in the water and was able to doggy paddle with her vest on today, which was pretty exciting! Both girls loved going down the big waterslide at the pool, despite Mommy's difficulty at trying to keep their heads above water at the bottom of the slide...

Happy 4th of July

Trevor's rhythmic sparkler dance
Aliyah, Kaylee, and Kianna with sparklers
Girls kissing Trace. Notice Kaylee's new "short" hair and Kianna's new earrings. She got her ears pierced a couple weeks ago and is sooooo proud of them!

Grandma GG with Trace

The day started out a bit wet, but ended with a bang! Keri's family came over for Grandma Carie's BBQ ribs, potato salad, taco salad, fruit pizza, and buster bar. Yummy!!! Trevor had fun making up a rhythmic dance while doing sparklers and of course the kids enjoyed them too. Watching Trevor may have been the highlight of my day!

The girls enjoyed watching fireworks, although Kianna said afterwards they were too loud and that they scared her. Earlier in the day, Kaylee who is always inquisitive, wanted to know what time the fireworks started. When I told her they weren't until 9:40 PM, she said well then I can't go because that is past my bedtime! I told her fireworks are only once a year, so she could probably make an exception and after some thought she agreed. Gotta love schedules!

Adventureland 2009

Aliyah and Aunt Keri on log ride.

Kianna eating her snack or "nack" as she likes to call them...
Aliyah after she lost her tooth.

We had a blast at Adventureland this year. The weather was perfect and we took our niece, Aliyah with us, so it was a fun day for all. Kianna was tall enough this year to go on "The Raging River" and the "Frog Hopper". Kaylee and Aliyah were both tall enough to go on "The Outlaw", a BIG rollercoaster, so that was really exciting for both of them. I thought Kaylee would be really scared, but she wanted to do it again right away! Our little girl is growing up!

It was fun getting to ride on the big rides with the kids versus just watching them ride all of the smaller ones. Adventureland even has a waterpark now, so we had fun towards the end of the day going down the waterslides.  The excitement didn't end, as Aliyah lost a tooth while eating her ice cream sandwich on the ride home. What a lucky girl, Adventureland during the day and the tooth fairy at night!
