Middle Finger

While the kids and I were off enjoying our camps, Kaylee was at home enjoying her week as an only child. Grandma Becki had Kaylee over to get some help with her landscaping. In the midst of trying to relocate a cement bench, Grandma Becki tripped and fell backwards, causing her glove to fall off and her to severely scrape her left middle finger on the cement. The result was a partially amputated middle finger. Kaylee helped grandma get the first aid kit and then called Trevor for help. They ended up in the ER where they all having week stomachs, were unwilling to look at her mutilated finger.

Thankfully no surgery was required, however, close supervision of her finger is required to make sure it will heal properly, especially since she is diabetic. Grandma Becki was proud of Kaylee was staying calm. Kaylee admitted she was pretty shaken up by the whole incident and definitely does not want to go into healthcare...

ADDENDUM: Grandma Becki had to have her finger monitored weekly to check for infection and have the bandage replaced. Thankfully although a slow process her finger is starting to more normal, despite it being about 1 cm shorter than her other hand.

Painting with Grandma GG

Grandma Carie moved into my mom's house earlier this year in order to keep her safe, as she was forgetting to take her medicine, missing meals and falling more often. The move away from living independently has been an emotional one for Grandma. Last month, the final step was completed as we cleaned out her condo in order to sell it. Grandma really struggled with us going through her belongings. It has been an emotional journey for Grandma, but at the same time she is enjoying being around people more and brags about the great care she is receiving by my mom.

When cleaning out one of her closets, I discovered a box full of unpainted miniature reindeer. I had also found several unpainted baseball figurines along with accessories. Kianna decided we should invite Grandma GG over for a painting party, as this is one of the hobbies Grandma used to really enjoy. So we did just that! We had a great time painting with Grandma. She loved it too! She was so focused on her painting, it was sweet to watch. These are memories I will always treasure!

Fourth of July

The fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays. I love getting dressed up in red, white and blue; eating yummy food; spending time with family; and watching fireworks downtown. One of the other fun things we did today was float down the Maquoketa River with my mom, Bree and Aliyah, Shelli and The Shannons. Such a great day!!!

Herbert Hoover Museum

Before we move to Florida, I had a few places in Iowa that I wanted the kids to experience. One of those places is the Herbert Hoover Museum in West Branch. I hadn't been there since I was a kid. Our friends, the Flender's, went with us. We had a nice time learning more about our 31st president and the only one from Iowa.

Daddy Daughter Date

Trevor took Kaylee out for Italian food and then bowling. It was nice for them to get some one-on-one time. They have a special relationship!
